.KEY MESSAGES...
- Breezy afternoon today and Saturday.

- Showers and thunderstorms possible by mid week next week with
monsoonal moisture increase.

.SHORT TERM /THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Issued at 127 AM MDT Fri Jun 27 2025
Fairly strong zonal flow aloft continues today and main impact
will be an increase in winds as they mix down in the afternoon.
Expect fairly widespread 10 to 20 mph sustained winds after noon
with some gusts in the 20 to 30 mph range. Strongest winds will
be in the Arco desert. Only location for isolated thunderstorms
will be in the upper snake highlands near the Montana border and
Island Park area. Have very low confidence in occurrence. No
change Saturday other than no convection anywhere in the grids
but winds will likely increase again in the afternoon mainly in
the Snake River Plain again with the 10 to 20 mph sustained and
20 to 30 mph gusts occurring. High temperatures both days will
be in the 70s to lower 80s mountains and 80s to near 90 valleys.
Lows tonight and Saturday night in the 40s and 50s.
&&
.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/...
Issued at 127 AM MDT Fri Jun 27 2025
Upper level ridge moves overhead Sunday with winds diminishing
significantly with continued dry conditions. Highs again 70s to
lower 80s mountains and 80s to near 90 valleys. With ridge
moving east Monday and southerly flow aloft beginning should
warm up Monday with highs in the 80s mountains and 90s valleys.
With flow aloft turning southerly expect some monsoonal moisture
to work into southeast Idaho and have a return to isolated to
scattered thunderstorms the remainder of the long term forecast
Tuesday through Friday. Most activity will be in the mountains
but there is at least a chance everyone may see some convective
precipitation much of next week. It will remain very warm with
highs continuing in the 80s to lower 90s through next Friday.
&&
.AVIATION /12Z TAFS THROUGH 12Z SATURDAY/...
Issued at 442 AM MDT Fri Jun 27 2025
We are looking at VFR weather continuing with mid and high level
clouds around. Any thunderstorm activity should remain far
enough north to NOT impact any of our TAF sites. We will see
gusty winds, on the order of 20-30kts, including SUN, this
afternoon and evening.
&&
.FIRE WEATHER...
Issued at 127 AM MDT Fri Jun 27 2025
As low pressure passes to our north, we will see a few dry storms
developing across Zones 475/476 (Central Mountains/Lemhi County) and
411 along the Montana border between 1300 MDT and sunset. These
storms will quickly shift north and east into Montana. This is a 10-
30% chance of wind gusts over 35 mph, with greater chances of strong
winds once they move out of our area. Outside of storms, wind gusts
of 20-35 mph are expected today across most areas EXCEPT areas
closer to the Utah and Wyoming borders. Gusty winds are forecast
again Saturday across Zones 410 (Snake Plain) and 425 (Magic Valley).
Otherwise, hotter and dry conditions return until the middle of next
week. Monsoon moisture arrives as early as Tuesday, but more likely
after that with an increasing chance of showers and storms.
